This afternoon, it was quite an experience ascending the Church of Monastery of São Vicente de Fora’s tower (Monastery of St. Vincent Outside the Walls), a 17th century church and monastery in the city of Lisbon, and take a photo of the old clock mechanisms (gearwheels?). The brass dial which used to set the time is inscribed: made in 1773 and renovated in 1821, as a consequence of the Lisbon Earthquake. The clock has remained in the tower, though it’s out of service.
What a wonderful old mechanism!! Great shot Belita :-))
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mytch! There were so many steps that my legs felt a slight burn when I reached the top but it was worth the effort...
